Officials

Not everyone can be an Olympic athlete or indeed wants to be. An essential part of any competition is the smooth running of the event and officials make that possible. Many are former top athletes and some are even current ones, some want to put back into the sport what they got from it and others simply want something challenging to do on a Saturday. Officials are the guys you turn to for information, advice and assistance. They are guided by two principles:

• Safety
• Fairness

Officials are the grease that make an event easier. Your career will begin as a trainee umpire and will progress through Intermediate Official to National Umpire status. After three years as a National Umpire one can apply to write the FISA exam and become an International Umpire attending regattas all over the world
